The Archdiocese of Detroit (“AOD”) respects and protects the privacy rights of all individuals that use www.aod.org (the “Site”). Any personally identifiable information that is provided on the Site will be kept private and only used for its intended purposes and to fulfill the mission and direction of AOD. 

This Information Privacy Statement will fully disclose our policy about the collection, maintenance, use, disclosure, and security of personally identifiable information obtained from users of the Site. By personally identifiable information, we mean a user’s name, address, email address, telephone number, financial information or any other information that can be used to contact an individual, or which is identifiable of a specific individual (“Identifiable Information”). AOD uses commercially reasonable measures to protect Identifiable Information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, disclosure, or alteration. 

AOD may provide access to Identifiable Information to AOD’s employees and contractors that have a need to know and have confidentiality obligations to AOD. AOD may also disclose your Identifiable Information as required by applicable law or pursuant to a subpoena, order and/or request of a court or other governmental, legislative or regulatory body. Lastly, AOD may modify your Identifiable Information such that it is not identifiable as yours, and AOD may store, analyze, manipulate, aggregate, display, disclose, distribute, retain and otherwise use such unidentifiable information without restriction. AOD may distribute unidentified information and aggregated statistical information for research and reporting purposes. Except as provided above, your Identifiable Information will not be disclosed, sold, traded or rented to any third parties. 

AOD’s obligations under this Information Privacy Statement do not apply to any information or data that: (a) is not identifiable as yours; (b) is or becomes entirely in the public domain; (c) was known to AOD prior your provisioning of information or data; (d) received lawfully from a third party through no breach of any obligation of confidentiality owed to you; and/or (e) created by AOD independently of its access to or use of your Identifiable Information. 

The security of the Site, servers and other computer equipment used to bring you the Site is a high priority of AOD. We maintain the Site and all associated data with technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect against loss, unauthorized access, destruction, misuse, modification, and improper disclosure of all information under AOD’s control. AOD follows reasonable industry-standard security procedures such as encrypted administrative communication, restricted access to underlying machines, and firewalls at network access points. However, no security system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee the security of the Site or databases, nor can we guarantee that information you supply will not be intercepted while being transmitted to use through the Internet. To assist with maintaining your privacy, AOD requires you to keep any usernames and passwords you use to access the Internet and the Site strictly confidential. 

AOD will collect certain technical information from your computer when you access or use the Site. Below we have summarized this technical information: 

AOD does not try to identify individuals or otherwise collect Identifiable Information from IP addresses or web log information. IP addresses and web log information are used by AOD to, among other things, administer the Site, help diagnose technical problems, to track and analyze aggregate data associated with the Site, to design the Site, identify popular features, and in similar ways. AOD may aggregate IP addresses and/or web log information, and may store, analyze, manipulate, display, disclose, distribute, retain and otherwise use such unidentifiable information. AOD may also provide IP addresses and/or web log information to law enforcement agencies if someone tries to alter, impair, or destroy the Site or use it in an unauthorized or illegal way. 

“Cookies” are pieces of information that a website transfers to a user's computer for record-keeping purposes. AOD currently does not use cookies and no cookies will be placed on your computer as a result of your use of this Site. 

AOD has provided links to other sites on the Site, including but not limited to, links you may find useful, to facilitate donations, or enable transactions to be processed through the AOD Store. These sites have different privacy policies and you should be aware of each site’s privacy policy before providing any information to those sites. AOD is not responsible for any information you provide to sites that we have provided links to. 

Individual privacy concerns should first be addressed with the individual’s pastor, school principal, human resources manager, or agency manager. If the issue cannot be resolved, an inquiry may be made in writing to the Department of the Moderator of the Curia for the Archdiocese of Detroit.

AOD reserves the right to change the terms and conditions of this Information Privacy Statement at any time in its sole discretion. AOD will provide notification of any change by posting the change on the Site. You are responsible for regularly reviewing this Information Privacy Statement and all such changes. Continued use of the Site after any such changes have been posted shall constitute your agreement to such changes.
